A Message from Kathy

Welcome to Access Care Services (ACS) — a place created for those who care and those who need care.

With more than 40 years of experience in the health and social service field, I have had the privilege of walking alongside individuals, families, caregivers, and professionals as they navigate some of life’s most important and often complex decisions.

Over the years, I have seen firsthand how confusing health care systems, disability services, long-term care options, and funding sources can be. Many individuals and families are simply trying to understand what their options are, how to make the best decisions, and how to ensure their needs—or the needs of someone they love—are truly being met.

Access Care Services was created to help bring clarity, understanding, and confidence to those moments.

Why Access Care Services Was Created

Access Care Services was founded in 2000 with a clear purpose:

To help individuals and families better understand their care needs, their available options, and the most practical and cost-effective ways to meet both immediate and long-term goals.

Throughout my career, I have worked with:

 • Older adults navigating aging-related changes
• Adults living with disabilities
• Transition-age youth preparing for adulthood
• Families supporting loved ones across the lifespan
• Professionals working within complex service systems

What became clear over time is that many individuals do not lack options—they lack clear, understandable guidance.

ACS was built to help bridge that gap.

A Philosophy of Empowerment

At the heart of Access Care Services is a strong belief:

You have the right to lead your own care.

Our mission is to equip and inspire individuals toward greater independence and the ability to confidently lead their care team.

We believe:

 • People deserve to understand their options
• Individuals should be active participants in decisions about their lives
• Families benefit from education—not just services
• Systems should support independence, not create unnecessary dependence

Through education, consultation, and thoughtful problem-solving, ACS helps individuals and families move forward with confidence.

Expanding Access Through Golden Guidance

As Access Care Services has grown, so has the vision.

The Golden Guidance Resource Center was developed to provide individuals, families, caregivers, and professionals with access to educational resources that allow them to:

• Learn at their own pace
• Better understand systems and services
• Build confidence in decision-making
• Reduce the need for ongoing service dependency when possible

While ACS continues to provide consultation and care management when needed, Golden Guidance allows more people to access helpful information and take meaningful steps forward independently.

A Collaborative and Caring Team

While Access Care Services was founded by Kathy Intravaia, the work behind ACS and the Golden Guidance Resource Center is supported by a small but dedicated and growing team.

This team includes individuals who contribute in a variety of ways, including:

 • research and resource development
• content review and organization
• administrative and technical support
• student learning and professional development support
• collaboration with community resources and professionals

What brings this team together is a shared commitment to:

 • helping individuals and families
• improving access to meaningful, easy-to-understand information
• strengthening the quality and usefulness of the Golden Guidance Resource Center

Each person involved plays a role in helping ensure that ACS resources are thoughtful, relevant, and continuously improving.

As ACS continues to grow, this collaborative model allows the organization to expand while staying grounded in its core mission of education, empowerment, and compassionate support.

 • race
